The Athearn Roundhouse RND1133 is a fantastic HO scale 50-foot plug door smooth side box car, specifically the BAR Bangor & Aroostook #6465. Note that the picture might show a different road number. This model comes fully assembled and is ready to run right out of the box. It features a standard or cushioned underframe as per the prototype, a highly detailed injection-molded body, a separately applied roof walk and brake wheel. It's painted and printed realistically, weighted for smooth operation, and has 33” machined metal wheels with RP25 contours. The body-mounted McHenry operating scale knuckle couplers are a great addition, and it has a minimum radius of 18”. The Pullman Standard PS-1 box car, from which this model is inspired, was introduced in various sizes like 40’, 50’, and 60’ lengths. With multiple door configurations, it was very flexible. The Pullman Standard had unique details like rolled non-terminating ends and bow-tie stamped metal roofs. The coupler style is the McHenry Scale Knuckle.

Using this Athearn Roundhouse box car is easy. Since it's fully assembled, you can just take it out of the box and place it on your HO scale model train track. It's ready to roll right away. When operating, make sure your track has a radius of at least 18” to avoid any issues. As for maintenance, keep it clean. You can use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe off any dust or debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals as they might damage the painted and printed details. Store it in a dry place to prevent any rusting of the metal parts. If you notice any loose parts like the separately applied roof walk or brake wheel, handle them carefully and try to reattach if possible. And always be gentle when connecting and disconnecting the McHenry Scale Knuckle couplers to ensure they work smoothly.
