Rapido presents the 23524 ALCO PA NYC - New York Central #4202 in HO scale. It features a Lightning Stripe, 2-Tone Gray paint scheme and comes equipped with LokSound & DCC. Note that the picture might show a different road number. The ALCo PA series locomotives are widely regarded as some of the most stylish diesel locomotives ever made. Built between 1946 and 1953 by a partnership of American Locomotive Company and General Electric, they had two models - PA-1 and PA-2, powered by ALCo’s 16 - cylinder 244 diesel engine with different horsepower. Designed to compete with GM’s EMD E - units in the passenger locomotive market, while they were stylish, they lacked reliability. Many were retired in the 1960s as passenger service declined. However, some units had interesting after - lives, like those bought by the Delaware and Hudson, rebuilt, and used on various trains. Rapido's HO scale model is the first mass - produced plastic one of the PA series with accurate contours and road - specific details, scanned from a preserved unit. Our first run models have features like correct nose and roof profiles, loads of roadname - specific details, available as A units or A - B sets, and come with multiple options such as dynamic or non - dynamic brakes, lit number boards, and more. They are available as single powered A - units or in A + B powered sets.

Using your Rapido HO scale ALCO PA locomotive is easy. First, make sure your track is clean and properly connected. If you choose the DC/Silent option, simply connect it to a DC power source. For the DC/DCC/Sound option, you'll need a compatible DCC system. When operating, start with a low speed and gradually increase it to avoid sudden jolts. Keep in mind that the model has delicate parts like separate grab irons and handrails, so handle it gently to prevent damage. For maintenance, regularly clean the wheels and pickups with a soft, dry cloth to ensure good electrical contact. If there's dust on the body, use a can of compressed air to blow it off. Store the locomotive in a cool, dry place when not in use to prevent any warping or damage to the plastic parts. Also, be careful with the lit components like number boards and headlights; avoid exposing them to excessive heat or moisture.
