The Walthers Cornerstone 3049 Icehouse and Platform in HO scale takes you back to the golden era of railroading. From the 1880s to the 1970s, ice - cooled reefers were essential for transporting meat and produce. Railroads built ice houses and platforms every 250 - 300 miles to supply ice for these refrigerated cars. This complete kit features a detailed icehouse inspired by a prototype in Antigo, Wisconsin, and a modular icing platform from a Pacific Fruit Express design. It comes with many add - on details like an optional platform roof, roof vents, and 24 ice blocks. The plastic parts are molded in color, making assembly a breeze, and full instructions are provided. It's one of the great Cornerstone food industrial buildings. The completed model with the platform measures 18 - 1/2 x 6 - 1/4' (46.9 x 15.8cm), and the icehouse is 4 - 3/4 x 10 - 3/4 x 5' (12 x 27.3 x 12.7cm).

Using this icehouse and platform kit is easy. First, take out all the parts from the box and check that you have everything listed in the instructions. Start assembling the icehouse according to the steps provided. The parts are molded in color, so you don't have to paint them if you don't want to. Next, put together the modular icing platform. You can decide whether to add the optional platform roof depending on your preference. When handling the 24 ice blocks, be careful not to break them as they are small. After assembly, you can place the model on your model railroad layout. For maintenance, keep the model away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture, as this can damage the plastic parts. If it gets dirty, you can gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth.
