The ScaleTrains SXT32092 4727 N Scale Carbon Black Covered Hopper, featuring Sid Richardson/SRCX road number #3142 (note: picture may show a different road number), is a highly detailed model. It represents an era from 2002 - 2005, part of the Series 3101 - 3180 Trinity File 592 built in January 2002. After Trinity acquired Thrall Car Co, this car was built with the same design and labeled as 4720 CuFt. It has 28 round roof loading hatches, and its paint matches Tru - Color Paint color TCP - 010 Black. There are four different road numbers available, with options of 22 or 28 roof hatches. The model comes with finely detailed end posts and bracing, photo - etched stainless - steel running boards and end platforms, separately - applied end ladders, and finely - detailed underbody brake detail. It has body - mounted semi - scale standard Type E knuckle couplers, Barber S - 2 70 - ton Trucks with finely rendered raised foundry data, and 33” machined metal wheels. The minimum radius for operation is 9 ¾”, and the recommended radius is 11”. As a Rivet Counter N Scale Freight Car, it is fully assembled, has multiple road numbers, factory - applied metal grab irons, coupler cut levers, and trainline hoses. It features intricate brake plumbing, and its printing and lettering are legible even under magnification. It's weighted to industry standards for reliable operation, can operate on Code 55 and 70 rail, and comes in a clear jewel box packaging for safe storage. The color is matched to existing Tru - Color Paint colors whenever possible. Carbon black, a petrochemical refining by - product, is a fine, powdery substance like soot. It's widely used in the automotive industry and as a pigment. Covered hoppers are used to haul it, with unique designs since the 1920s. These cars are common near major producers or users in North America and can also be seen in mixed freight trains. The 4727 cubic foot carbon black covered hopper was introduced in 1992, resembling traditional covered hoppers more than the boxy 5750cf design. Many of these cars are still in service today. Using your ScaleTrains N Scale Carbon Black Covered Hopper is easy. First, make sure your track has a radius of at least 9 ¾ inches, though 11 inches is recommended for better operation. Place the car gently on the track, and it's ready to run on Code 55 and 70 rail. Since it's fully assembled, you don't have to worry about putting it together. When handling the car, be careful with the delicate parts like the photo - etched stainless - steel running boards, end platforms, and separately - applied end ladders. Avoid touching them roughly to prevent breakage. For maintenance, keep the car clean. You can use a soft, dry cloth to wipe away dust from the body, wheels, and underbody. If there's any stubborn dirt, you can use a very mild cleaning solution on a cloth, but make sure it's completely dry before using the car again. Store the car in its clear jewel box packaging when not in use to protect it from damage. Also, keep it in a cool, dry place to avoid any issues with the paint or other components.
