Step back in time to the golden age of model railroading with our ScaleTrains SXT1214 Classic HO Scale 40-foot 70-ton 4-bay open hopper kit. This kit is a great way to introduce the next generation to the joy of model railroading. It's easy to assemble with just a Phillips screwdriver, glue, and a few minutes of your time. The kit features an all-new roadname, multiple road numbers, finely cast details like stirrup steps, end ladders, grab irons, and a detailed underbody and brake system. The molded interior has rivets and side wall bracing for added realism. The separately applied handbrake wheel, one-piece detailed Bettendorf trucks, and 33” machined metal wheels with accurately profiled .110” wide wheel tread make this a high-quality model. It comes with plastic semi-scale Type E knuckle couplers that are Kadee compatible, and the body-mounted coupler box can accept Kadee whisker couplers. The model is weighted to industry standards and can operate on Code 70, 83, and 100 rail. The packaging is designed to safely store the model when assembled, and it has a minimum radius of 18”. (Picture may show a different road number). The 70-ton self-clearing hopper car was designed in 1926 by the Car Construction Committee of the American Railroad Association, and many of these cars lasted into the 1960s.

Using this model kit is a breeze. First, gather a Phillips screwdriver and some glue. Take your time to assemble the parts carefully. Make sure to follow the instructions that come with the kit. When handling the small parts like the stirrup steps and grab irons, be gentle to avoid breakage. For maintenance, keep the model clean by using a soft, dry cloth to dust it regularly. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials as they can damage the finish. Store the model in its original packaging when not in use to protect it from dust and potential damage. If you want to replace the couplers, make sure to use ones that are compatible with the body-mounted coupler box. Also, when operating the model on the track, ensure the track is clean and in good condition for smooth running. Remember, the model has a minimum radius of 18”, so plan your track layout accordingly.
